Nov. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Point International, a leading provider of electronic payment services in Europe, has joined the Secure POS Vendor Alliance (SPVA).

Created by a group of leading payment service providers in April 2009, including VeriFone and Ingenico, SPVA fosters widespread compliance of existing security standards to protect cardholder information and defend merchants and acquirers against security breaches. Since its inception, the non-profit organization has united industry experts and attracted almost 20 leading payment companies that seek to have a voice within the world of secure payments.

“SPVA is a very important organization and their work to enhance security elements of payment solutions is vital to our business,” said Dimitri Binazzi, chief security officer at Point International. “As the leading payment service provider in Europe, it is of the utmost importance that we work closely with SPVA members to contribute knowledge in this field.”

SPVA membership is open to vendors that develop secure POS payment systems or have products or solutions that interact with secure POS payment devices such as retailers, acquirers and banks. The organization works to evolve security enhancements and interoperability required to reduce fraud and lower risk for all participants in card payment transactions. Various membership levels offer specific benefits for participation in the SPVA organization and Technical Work Groups.

“With a presence in 11 European countries, Point International has been able to build a solid reputation by delivering innovative solutions to its customers,” said Steven Hughes, SPVA president. “Their insight and understanding of the secure payment industry will help shape SPVA efforts to advance solutions that help lower risk for consumers, merchants and acquirers.”
