Accrued Interest In Ashtanga Yoga!

No-one would forgive you for raising an eyebrow at the thought of an investment banker investing their time stretching and flexing with yoga to improve the stresses and strains of life; however, one investment banker did just that.

Nov. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- The Common notion is that yoga is normally practised by yummy mummies or aging hippies and Bradley was no different in holding very similar misconceptions.  Yet he is very honest in saying he didn’t really know what yoga was.  A three year secondment to Asia completely changed his mind.

Although attitudes have started to change in the west over the last 10 years, the eastern approach to health and well-being is far more holistic than we find in Europe and yoga is part of day-to-day life in the Far East.

On evening, before dinner he was persuaded to go along to an Ashtanga yoga class with friends.  Despite considering himself very fit, Bradley says he found the class hard work.  He felt completely exhausted afterwards and it took a number of days for his muscles to return to normal.  However, he also noticed that the feeling of well-being lasted.

Enthused but still a little sceptical as to the long term benefits, Bradley decided there and then to give yoga a real go. Upon returning to London, he found an instructor and started to explore the different types of yoga.

“It didn’t happen overnight” he said, “and sometimes I did feel a little disheartened that I was not as supple, or did not have as much core strength as some of my fellow students.  Overall though it was an incredibly positive release of tension and it felt really good”.

Particularly with such a stressful role, anything that can help the mind and body to relax in a positive and healthy way brings immense benefits.  By practicing yoga on a regular basis, we can build up a natural response to stress and bring a more relaxed state to our lives.

Both physical and mental traumas experienced during the working day are registered in the muscles and they can be worked out slowly and carefully through yoga exercise and controlled breath.  This relaxing experience can remove stress or worries of life from your mind.

For people with stressful careers, yoga needs to be accessible, affordable, well thought out and welcoming, especially for first timers.  The practice has been around for 6,000 years and the benefits are real; but parts of the UK continue to view yoga as a pastime practiced in suburban village halls or attached to a corner of a busy and noisy gym.

However, in Marylebone in London there is a brand new yoga studio that is breaking the mould.  Set over three floors of beautiful, comfortable, warm and supportive surroundings, Indaba Yoga offers a range of classes, workshops and therapies, all run by seasoned and experienced teachers.

“Indaba is really fantastic – probably the nicest studio in London.  The venue is super smart with great facilities but for me the best part is that is a definite work-out and the stress relief utterly great.  We all know stress has emerged as a major cause of ailments and take it from one who knows, nothing is more effective in reducing stress than yoga!”
