PRLog - Nov. 2, 2011 - WASHINGTON -- The Songwriters Association of Washington is sponsoring the On the Rise Soul & R&B Showcase on Thursday, November 3rd at Washington, DC's historic Blues Alley. The performer's list reads like a Who's Who of the DMV indie music scene with Deborah Bond, Levi Stephens, Dionne, Dumi Right, Sol Roots, TolumiDE, Lea, and Eric Scott, and student performers Jamie Boyd, Kriss Mincey, and Devin Kowl all scheduled to appear. But that's not all, Darien is the featured performer and attendees will get to see him in a rare DC performance.
SAW Blues Alley Soul R&B Showcase
The headliner, Darien, is from NYC and is a rising star in the industry. He won the Budweiser Superfest "Battle for the Crown" and was the 2010 Artist of the Year named by Soultracks.com. Cleveland Spears, DJ from WPFW show Fantastic Fridays will interview Darien on his approach and success in writing great and timeless music, and Darien will introduce each artist and close each set with music of his own, some from his hit cd, "If These Walls Could Talk".
Two shows are going down that night at 8 pm and 10 pm, and with such an impressive roster of talent, it's going to be a beautiful night of music.
SAW is establishing a scholarship with the proceeds from the show for aspiring students in the DC who wish to develop their songwriting craft.
