Road Closures Set For Swansea Fireworks Display

There will be a number of road closures in effect on Friday 4 November coinciding with the Sparks in the Dark fireworks display at St Helen’s Rugby Ground, Swansea.

PRLog - Nov. 2, 2011 - In order to facilitate public safety for Swansea's Sparks in the Dark firework display several roads will be closed in the vicinity of St Helen’s Rugby Ground on Friday 4 November between 4.00pm - 9.00pm.  Only Emergency vehicles and residents will be allowed access, with residents only permitted access if it is safe to do so.

The following roads are affected:
Gorse Lane - Closed both directions
Bryn Road - Closed between Osborne Terrace and King Edward Road
King Edward Road - Closed between Rhyddings Park Road and Gorse Lane.
Finsbury Terrace  - Closed between Bryn Road and Brynmill Crescent.
Brynmill Crescent, Pantycelyn Road, Taliesyn Road, Ceiriog Road - Entry will be prohibited to these roads except for emergency services, and local residents if it is safe to do so.
Mumbles Road – Closed both directions between Brynmill Lane and Guildhall Road South for 10 minutes between 7.55pm and 8.05pm to allow for the egress of visitors.
In addition there will be a temporary prohibition of waiting and loading between 5.30pm to 8.30pm along Oystermouth Road between St Helens Road and Argyle Street

Council Traffic Enforcement Officers will be out on the evening around St Helens so people are encouraged to take advantage of the free car parking available and allow plenty of time to arrive and park before the event starts.

Free parking is available at the Recreation Ground, Lacrosse Field (singleton Park), Guildhall Circle and Brangwyn Hall car park.  Parking is also available at the Civic Centre (West car park) and Swansea University.

Nigel Jones, Swansea Council’s Special Events Manager, said, “We are looking forward to a large crowd and a thoroughly enjoyable fireworks evening.  Ensuring public safety is always a priority and we apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”

“On the night, we advise people to get to the ground early to avoid queuing and allow plenty of time to see what’s on offer. We would also urge people arriving by car to park responsibly and be mindful of the residents living in the immediate area.”

Gates open at 5.30pm with entertainment beginning at 6.00pm.  The evening will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display choreographed to music starting at 7.30pm.

Prior to the gates opening tickets can be purchased online at http://www.swansea.gov.uk/fireworks or from Swansea Tourist Information Centre in person or by calling 01792 637300 during normal office hours.   Tickets are also available from Mumbles Tourist Information Centre, Swansea Civic Centre and from any Active Swansea Leisure Centre.  Advanced-price tickets can be purchased until midnight on Thursday 3 November.

The entrances near Gate 2 and Gate 5 will be open for ticket holders, whilst tickets can be purchased on the night from the Box Office on Gate 3 (Gors Lane side of the Ground).

Sparks in the Dark fireworks display is organised by The City and County of Swansea and is supported by The Wave and Swansea Sound.
