PRLog - Nov. 1, 2011 - DECATUR, Ga. -- With snow starting to fall in places like Colorado and British Columbia, the creators of Singletracks.com and Tripleblaze.com are launching a new snowsports website, SnowToIt.com to help winter athletes find the best places to play in the snow. SnowToIt.com organizes member-submitted reviews, photos, and videos from ski resorts and backcountry trails into an easy-to-use online resource.
So far the site has information on nearly 1,000 resorts and trails in the US and Canada plus hundreds of winter equipment rental shops. Members can also review hundreds of winter sports products, including skis, snowboards, snowshoes, and outerwear. In addition to reviews, photos, and videos, SnowToIt also offers mapping features that make it easy to get directions to ski resorts and backcountry trailheads or to find nearby equipment rental shops.
"About half the mountain bikers we know also ski or snowboard during the winter," Singletracks.com co-founder Jeff Barber says. "We wanted to create a place like Singletracks where skiers and boarders can go to find the best places to shred."
According to an internal survey of more than 25,000 mountain bikers, Blue Spruce Ventures found that 49% of respondents either ski or snowboard during the winter. And with many winter ski resorts serving double duty as mountain bike parks in summer, the progression to creating a new online resource was only natural.
As part of the official launch this month, SnowToIt is partnering with Backcountry.com to give away prizes each week to members who contribute at least one review, photo, or video. The top contributor at the end of the contest will take home a brand new HD helmet camera.
