Fans Support Local Dance Company Through Internet Crowd-Funding Platform Kickstarter

Nov. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Plano, Texas, Tuesday, November 1, 2011 — Artistic dance productions are expensive to create, so Epiphany DanceArts, a Plano-based professional performing arts company is utilizing the internet to raise funds for their upcoming performance Shimmers in the Snow: A Winter Celebration. Through Kickstarter and promotion on social networks, Epiphany DanceArts is relying on the somewhat magical power of the internet to connect their need with supportive people in order to raise money for the production premiering December 9th and 10th in Garland, TX. The family friendly show will feature beautiful choreography set to classic Christmas songs like Carol of the Bells, Oh Holy Night, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, and more. They will be performing it at the historic Plaza Theatre in downtown Garland, TX on December 9th and 10th @ 7:30pm. (http://www.epiphanydancearts.org/shows)

Kickstarter.com is the world’s largest funding platform for creative projects. One of the unique elements of Kickstarter is its "all-or-nothing" funding requirement. This means each project must meet its goal before the time runs out or no money changes hands—November 26th is the deadline for Epiphany.

“We are very optimistic about our project” said Melissa DeGroat, Artistic Director for Epiphany. “We are already off to a fantastic start and have been truly overwhelmed by the generous response so far.”

Another distinctive of Kickstarter is the reward system. Backers of projects are not making a loan or investment in the creative project, but that does not mean they get nothing for their trouble. Each project offers special rewards as an incentive to backers   based upon the amount of backing.

The project can be backed for a minimum of a $1 pledge, but for $25 you get an autographed photo of the dancers and an Epiphany t-shirt. The most popular reward so far is the $50 level which receives all of the smaller rewards plus and invitation to the afterparty with the Epiphany team December 10th. A notable reward is the $1000 level where your life story will be the inspiration for a personalized dance choreographed by the Artistic Director. After a phone interview, the Artistic Director will create a full-scale piece to be featured next season.
