UHY’s David Barton Speaks on Cloud Computing Security at Security by Design Conference Nov. 8-9

Barton to Discuss Risks of Cloud Computing, New Reporting Standards at Atlanta Event

Nov. 1, 2011 - PRLog -- UHY Advisors’ Principal David Barton will present two sessions at the Security by Design conference -- sponsored by the Metro Atlanta chapter of Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) -- on November 8 and 9, 2011.  He will share his expertise and knowledge on the risks of cloud computing and the new AICPA standards for service organization control (SOC).

The conference, touted as the Southeast’s most comprehensive security training event of the year, is designed to foster the mindset that information security must be a fundamental building block of organizations and programs.

“The issues David will discuss are vital to anyone considering cloud computing,” said Frank Fenello, UHY Advisors Managing Director.  “Information security is no longer just an option.  It needs to be built into every organization’s business plan.  The knowledge David will be sharing on cloud computing and SOC standards can change how businesses operate and significantly enhance their data security.”

Barton’s sessions:
•   Session 1, “Security and Legal Issues in an Era of Cloud Computing.”  Barton will share with industry professionals how the cloud affects their approach to risk and control. He will review the unique risks associated with cloud computing as well as the tools to mitigate them.  When: Wednesday, November 9th at 1:10 p.m.

•   Session 2, “RIP SAS 70: Time for Some New SOCs.”  Barton will present an overview of the new SOC standards and how they should be used, and reveal the reasons why the new standards still don’t fix the underlying problem.  He will conclude by sharing recommendations on how to best operate under these new standards.  When: Wednesday, November 9th at 3:10 p.m.

Barton is practice leader of the Technology Assurance and Advisory Services (TAAS) practice with UHY Advisors.  With over 25 years of practical experience, he is an expert in risk identification, assessment and evaluation; risk response; risk monitoring; IS control design and implementation; and IS control monitoring and maintenance.

ISSA, a non-profit group focused on the exchange of ideas and knowledge for professionals in the information security industry, is hosting the conference in collaboration with local ASDFED, NCMS and OWASP chapters.
