Conrad Maldives Reopens Second Island Following Renovation

Nov. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- The Maldives – 7 November 2011 – Following partial closure for a US$8 million renovation project, Conrad Maldives Rangali Island re-opened the smaller of its two islands on 1 November 2011.  The renovation work, which began in May 2011, saw a complete transformation of 28 Water Villas into ultra-luxurious contemporary over-water retreats with additional decking, private pool, entirely new furniture and sublime bathrooms with picture windows overlooking the ocean.  Also re-opening following a refresh are two stunning Premier Water Villas, the Over-Water Spa (one of two spas at the resort), Vilu restaurant and Vilu Bar.

During the renovation, the existing Water Villas were entirely re-built and completely renovated from the inside out, given a new open-plan interior and an extended sun deck which saw the addition of a plunge pool.  The highlight of the architecture is the writing desk which is set over glass panels giving the impression that it is floating over the water below.  The décor of the new Water villas features elegant natural tones of wood and soft whites with gentle shades of lavender and green.  Understated, recessed lighting adds to the contemporary feel.

The Over-Water Spa saw a gentle re-fresh in its classic design and with its four glass-floored over-water treatment rooms is expected to remain a signature architectural landmark at the resort.  

Vilu restaurant retains its open-air beachfront location and regular guests will be delighted to learn that although the menu has been re-visited, much-loved favourites such as the beef salad and the restaurants classic chocolate fondant cake still remain.  The theme for Vilu’s menu continues to be contemporary European, expertly overseen by Spanish chef Bruno Anon.  Vilu bar is a haven for pre- and post-dinner drinks and cocktails with an extensive list of classic and modern martinis.

With the exception of two Beach Suites which are due to open on the resort’s main island in mid-December, the renovation project now complete.  Guests staying at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island can enjoy the Maldives’ widest choice of luxury accommodation on two islands.  Options include indulgent over-water Spa Retreat villas and beachfront villas on Rangalifinolhu Island plus the new and existing over-water villas on Rangali Island, allowing guests to enjoy a variety of different experiences without ever leaving the resort.
