IndiaCollegeSearch.com Raises Seed Funding

IndiaCollegeSearch.com Raises Seed Funding | VAS Capital, a stage agnostic investment firm invests in Delhi-based Startup | Indian Angel Network incubates IndiaCollegeSearch

PRLog - Nov. 1, 2011 - IndiaCollegeSearch.com, an internet product start-up that was incubated by the Indian Angel Network, has raised INR 5.8 mn in seed funding from VAS Capital. Founded by Anirudh Motwani and Parul Bansal, IndiaCollegeSearch is a vertical search engine that helps students find a college. Serial entrepreneur and angel investor Vikram Kant Upadhyaya from the Indian Angel Network joins the company's board as Chief Mentor and Board Observer. Raveesh Malhotra from VAS Capital also joins the Board of Directors.

The company was launched in October 2010 and the investment will be used primarily for product development. On the investment, Anirudh Motwani, Founder and CEO of the company said, “In India, over 1 crore students enter college every year. At present, over 97% of them do not end up at the college they had planned for – and the alternatives are chosen with advice from friends and family, rather than factual information. We will use this investment to aggregate information from over 20 thousand colleges in India at one place, and we've developed a simple and powerful algorithm (awaiting copyright) that allows students to search through all this info and get what they want at their fingertips.”

"Our investment is driven by the impressive founding team and the size of the market they are targeting. Even though IndiaCollegeSearch.com is free for students and does not serve ads, they have a solid revenue model." said Raveesh Malhotra, Managing Director of VAS Capital.

IndiaCollegeSearch is presently the country’s fastest growing education website and is now used by over 50 thousand students every month who are about to make the most important decision of their life. The site aims to aggregate information about college infrastructure, faculty, placements and other details along with in-depth reviews.

Parul Bansal, CFO of the company said, “We’re looking at Rs 100 crore/year as the TAM (total addressable market). The sector (online marketing by colleges) is growing at over 100% annually and no clear leader has emerged in this space.”
