PRLog - Oct. 31, 2011 - America’s attention is on immigration with state and local policymakers debating definitions of legal and illegal immigration, employment and housing, human rights, anti-immigrant hate crimes, and more.  Exploring Critical Issues, the award-winning broadcast series conceived and hosted by Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott, and produced by Telecare Studios, resumes this fall with an exploration of “Immigration: Finding Common Ground.”

Dr. Scott is joined on this program by Joselo Lucero, Outreach Coordinator at the Hagedorn Foundation -- a nonprofit organization that “supports and promotes social equality” -- and the brother of Marcelo Lucero who was killed during a bias attack on Long Island in 2008; Adelphi University Professor of Economics Mariano Torras, Ph.D; Adelphi University Political Science Professor Margaret Gray who has authored works on migrant farm workers; and Father Richard Ryscavage, Director of The Center for Faith and Public Life at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Ct. and previously served as national director of the Jesuit Refugee Service/USA, a non-governmental organization operating in 50 countries, where he set up the first program to provide religious coordinators for immigration detention facilities of the US Department of Homeland Security.

The one-hour “Immigration: Finding Common Ground” broadcast airs this November beginning Saturday November 12 and over two weeks as follows:  Saturday, November 12 and November 19 at 10:30 p.m.; Sunday November 13 and November 20 at 7:00 a.m.; Monday, November 14 and November 21 at 10:30 p.m.; and Friday November 18 and November 25 at 1:00 p.m.  “Immigration: Finding Common Ground” can be viewed on Cablevision channels 29 (Long Island) and 137 (Connecticut and NY area outside of Long Island), Verizon FiOS channel 296 and simultaneously online at www.telecaretv.org.

“There is controversy about the immigration system we have in place and our Exploring Critical Issues program explores what policies and ethical issues we should be considering in America today,” said Dr. Scott.  “I am grateful to my guests for participating in this important debate.”

Seen by over seven million households, Exploring Critical Issues has earned three Telly Awards, the cable equivalent of the Emmy.

As the engaged University, Adelphi is proud to sponsor Exploring Critical Issues to provide scholars, advocates, and other distinguished guests with a forum in which to explore critical local, regional, national, and global topics, such as the environment, health, business, the arts, politics, law, and government regulations.
