Pch Prizes Has The Magic Touch For Cash Strapped Brits

- Halloween costs UK families a tricky £120 million each year - This Halloween, 78% of people wish to cast a spell to win a large cash prize - 74% of women are superstitious compared to 63% of men

Oct. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Halloween has become a multi-million pound business with families in the UK spending over £120 million every year on spooky decorations for the house, pumpkins, fancy dress trick or treat outfits and themed party food.

As consumers and retailers prepare for ghostly celebrations, a nationwide Halloween survey of 3,000 UK consumers’ conducted by http://www.pchprizes.co.uk revealed the nation’s top three wishes and superstitions.

Top of the wish-list for cash-strapped Brits looking to ward off rising living costs and fight the squeeze on disposable incomes was winning a large cash prize to help manage financially for years to come (78%). This was followed by over a third of people (39%) dreaming of being able to pay off their mortgage and then transported to an exotic location to enjoy five star luxury (38%).

However, for those living in the northern counties of England (North East, North West, Yorkshire and Humber and Scotland) and who miss out on sun for most of the year, conjuring fun in the sun was more appealing than paying off the mortgage!

It seems we become more altruistic as we become older too, as over half (51%) of those aged 55+ would wish for world peace and the opportunity to do more for charity (35%). Whereas adolescents aged 18-24 would prefer to learn a new talent or skill such as being able to cook, dance, sing or speak another language (36%).

As Halloween approaches, the survey also reveals that superstitions are determined by age and those aged 18-24 are twice as likely as the 55+ baby boomers to avoid unlucky situations, believe in unlucky omens such as breaking a mirror and to use a good luck charm whilst entering competitions or prize draws.

Dennis Vukelic, Director of Online Strategy at Publishers Clearing House commented: “In the current climate, it is not surprising that winning a large cash prize is top of the wish list for many people in the UK.”

“We recently awarded £100,000 to Suzanne Chenery from near Reading, who was so shocked as she said she had never had any luck winning anything before. It just shows that you have to be in it to win it, whether or not you believe in luck or superstitions!”

Halloween is all about tricks or treats and next week, Publishers Clearing House is surprising 3 lucky winners with a big treat of a £5,000 cheque. There are 8 free prize draws on pchprizes.co.uk and to celebrate Halloween, the website’s bingo room is giving away £13,000 at 10.30pm on Sunday 30th October.
