A Horse in a Dog Wheelchair Recovers Mobility with Walkin Wheels

Cherry, a miniature horse who was born prematurely and had been struggling for weeks to stand and walk on her own, has regained her mobility with the use of a Walkin' Wheels for Handicapped Pets dog wheelchair!

Oct. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Nashua, New Hampshire -  It was a Walkin' Wheels first this week with the report that Cherry, a miniature filly who was born prematurely and had been struggling for weeks to stand and walk on her own, has regained her mobility with the use of a Walkin' Wheels for Handicapped Pets dog wheelchair!  More information about Walkin' Wheels is available here - http://handicappedpets.com/www/index.php/dog-wheelchairs.html

The adjustability of the Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair proved to be ideal for Cherry's situation according to her owner Terrie who reported on the progress as follows:

"I had to angle the wheels back. Miss Cherry would get mulish at times and would push herself until she flipped over backwards. Angling the wheels back kept her from doing that anymore. I surely do appreciate your making it so she had this chair. It worked very well once we adjusted it to fit her. Thankfully, she did not need it any more after about a few weeks, but what it did for her made all the difference. Cherry was losing her will to want to go on, but having the chair made her want to fight even harder. In the three weeks she used the chair, she went from a baby that could not use any of her legs to a baby that could almost run without any devices. The chair gave her strength and drive and today she is 7 weeks old and while wobbly on her feet, she can finally get up and down and run on her own. Thank you for making that possible."

Before Cherry ever took her first steps in the Walkin' Wheels dog wheelchair, Terrie first used the cart as a lifting device to get Cherry on her feet and assist her with eating and digestion.  Cherry's first experience with her adjustable dog wheelchair occurred when the Walkin' Wheels was placed in her pen to help her stand and eat.

Cherry is continuing to improve and gain strength with physical therapy.  Cherry's veterinarians at East Coast Animal Medical Center in Vero Beach, Florida have also been providing updates and photos on her progress in an online album available at http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1015029892107674...
