Oct. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- Organizers of the BC Provincial Pond Hockey tournaments are pleased to announce that Invermere will be the 3rd location in the BC Provincial Pond Hockey series. The inaugural event which is expected to draw upwards of 60 teams from BC, the USA and Alberta, will be held on beautiful Lake Windermere February 3-5, 2012.

Invermere joins Rossland and Prince George as the third location in the roll out of the series which started in Rossland in 2009. The design behind these annual tournaments is to establish three to four distinct, yet complimentary locations within BC, and then to launch a Provincial Championship which will rotate between each location once all tournaments are up and running.

“We look for communities that are passionate about hockey, are geographically complimentary and firmly established destinations” stated event organizer John Reed. “The reception in Invermere has been nothing short of fantastic, the setting on the lake with the Rocky Mountains to the East and the Purcell Mountains to the West spectacular, and the town’s proximity to Calgary and the Alberta market perfect”, stated Reed.

Players’  who want to experience this one-of-a-kind event that takes you back to skating on backyard rinks and frozen ponds, are encouraged to stay tuned to http://www.bcpondhockey.com  There are openings for just 80 teams on a first registered, first served basis, and sponsorship opportunities will be announced shortly.
A passion for the game is essentially the only criteria to register, that and a minimum age restriction of 19 for men and 19 for women. Teams of 6 play four on four, and change on the fly.  There are no goalies, icing or off-side calls and players should be prepared to skate almost non-stop throughout each 30 minute game.
