The award-winning Banana Slug String Band rocks the San Francisco Green Festival this year. Two shows on Sunday, Nov. 13 at the San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center. Bring the whole family and shake your thang at 1:00 p.m. at the Kids Zone and 3:45 on the Main Stage. Free with Festival admission.
Perhaps best known for the organic food anthem “Dirt Made My Lunch,” the Banana Slugs have long been favorites of preschoolers and college students alike. The band’s music ranges from rock to rap, bluegrass to reggae and feature vocals, guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, harmonica and percussion. Shows include puppets, audience participation and wild-and-wacky costumes.
Over the years, the band has won wide acclaim for its music; awards include the Association for Independent Music Indie Award for Best Children’s Recording, a National Parenting Publications Awards Gold Award and the Gail Rich Award. The Slugs have performed at hundreds of venues across the U.S. including the Museum of Natural History in New York City, the Montalvo Arts Center, and the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
The band’s latest album, ONLY ONE OCEAN, earned a starred review in School Library Journal and won a Parents’ Choice and a Creative Child Magazine awards.
The San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center is located at 635 8th Avenue (at Brannan), San Francisco, CA 94103. Festival doors open Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 12 & 13, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
