United Nations’ 7 Billion & Me Website Launches

Oct. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON, Oct. 27, 2011 – In partnership with Carousel30 (http://www.Carousel30.com), The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) (http://www.unfpa.org/public/) launches its 7 Billion & Me website (http://www.7billionandme.org) today. The world’s population will top seven billion people on October, 31 2011. To mark this historic, global event, the UNFPA launched a global movement called 7 Billion Actions (http://www.7billionactions.org/) to inspire change by highlighting positive actions individuals and organizations can take that will make a difference around the world.

The 7 Billion & Me website is an important piece of the global movement campaign. It illustrates how a population of 7 billion relates to one person based on several factors such as birth date, birth location and current hometown. With this information, the website displays world statistics calculated specifically for him or her. It provides facts and figures such as how many people were born before you globally or how many people were born in your hometown after you, among other interesting statistics. The site also features a real time population clock.  

Participants of the campaign can also submit a picture and life story and share how making a difference is important to them both locally and globally.

Carousel30 worked with UNFPA to create the 7 Billion & Me website including its design and development. This data, combined with infographics designed by Carousel30, form a unique experience for every user of the site. Every person is able to see world statistics calculated specifically for him or her.
