Harrisburg University a Jam Site for 2012 Global Game Jam

Oct. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Great news for game developers across Pennsylvania: The IGDA Global Game Jam (GGJ) today announced that Harrisburg University of Science and Technology will be a GGJ 2012 Jam Site during the free worldwide ‘game jam’ event, scheduled to occur January 27-29, 2012.  

During the 48-hour free game jam artists, audio engineers, designers, writers, producers, and programmers work together in small teams to make videogames and compete for prizes. The GGJ is the world's largest game jam event and brings together thousands of game enthusiasts participating through many local jams around the world. GGJ is a project of the International Game Developers Association.

The event is open to participants who are 18 or older.  Experienced game developers, hobbyists, students and novices are invited.  The Harrisburg University GGJ activities will be managed by Charles Palmer, Executive Director of the Center for Advanced Entertainment and Learning Technologies (CAELT) and Anthony Ortega, production manager at the CAELT.

Harrisburg University is an ideal host site for the GGJ as it is the only higher education institution in Central Pennsylvania to offer an academic program in video game design, development according to the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).  

You can literally take planes, trains and automobiles to the event.  The University’s location at 326 Market Street in downtown Harrisburg is near Interstates 83 and 81 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, making it an easy drive to the University from any of Pennsylvania’s major cities. And it’s only a two-hour drive from the University to Baltimore, Washington, DC or Philadelphia. The Amtrak Passenger Train Station and Greyhound Bus Station are one block from our location. Harrisburg University is located at 326 Market Street in Harrisburg.  Free parking is available on the street.  Additional parking is available in the Harrisburg Parking Authority operated garage accessible via Fourth Street.
