Oct. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- One of the most pressing needs in higher education is funding for scholarships.  The Robert Eggers Memorial Scholarship will allow deserving students to attain their educational goals, meet their professional objectives and succeed to their fullest ability in environmental studies.

The scholarship is open to the Chapter’s Emerging Professionals.  This group consists of professionals based in the Charlotte region who are intent on becoming future green building leaders. Emerging Professionals include any person who is new to sustainable building. This includes career-changers and graduates new to the industry.  The Charlotte region is comprised of 37 counties and all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply.

The scholarship namesake, Robert Eggers (Rob), was a long time volunteer of the Chapter.  Rob served on the Education and Programs committee. He was passionate about LEED and environmental stewardship.  He became the first LEED AP for New Development in the state of North Carolina.

“You could not have met anyone more genuine and honest. He always went the extra mile”, states Brian Bumann, a Chapter Board of Directors, who worked closely with Rob.

Rob was a passionate educator.  He taught classes at Charlotte Clean & Green, CPCC and several other local community colleges.  His volunteer work was instrumental in developing programs for the Chapter and partnering with other organizations to provide education throughout the region.

Rob’s wife, Loreta Eggers says, “Rob would be pleased to see his efforts continue in educating others in building green and sustainability. Providing continuing education in these areas for others to learn more about the environment are great steps for our future builders and the community at large, not to mention the environment. Our family is so honored and humbled by this memorial scholarship in Rob's name. We hope many students will apply and go on to become leaders in "going green."

With the Robert Eggers Memorial Scholarship, the Chapter provides local support and demonstrates the act of giving back to the community and environment. Scholarships are an effective tool to improve recruitment in environmental programs and degrees.

The deadline for applications is November 22, 2011.  Interested candidates can find more information on the Chapter website at http://www.usgbccrc.org/?page=2011Scholarship.
