Oct. 26, 2011 - PRLog -- If everything on the planet were wiped out and destroyed, if darkness were to cover the face of the earth and the birds were to stop singing, there is one thing that would still remain – Music.
It probably existed long before people arrived on the scene. In fact, music may have been the first thing. Cosmic music. In this context, while everyone complains that the music market is dead and albums no longer sell, UCM gives the world of jazz a brand new album and musician: Umut Pelit’s album entitled “Zephyr”.
Umut Pelit is a musician born at the heart of the world of music and art. His surname will certainly be familiar. He is Eylem Pelit's brother. It may not be considered good form to define an artist with an older relative who has already achieved a certain status, but when it comes to art or music, we don't see any drawback to mentioning Umut Pelit's older brother Eylem Pelit as confirmation of his talent, especially with the other master musicians on the album for which he played bass guitar. Now, Umut Pelit brings us the music he has distilled from a rich musical heritage performed with leading names in the world of art and music. Umut Pelit is actually a drummer, but on the Zephyr album, he rises above and beyond being just an instrumentalist. He created this album, the music and work it contains, by bringing together many different musical masters (Umut Pelit, drums and percussion; Eylem Pelit, bass guitar; Çağdaş Oruç, tenor saxophone; Serkan Özyılmaz, electric piano and keyboard; Baran Çak, vocals; Okay Temiz, percussion, Turgut Alp Bekoğlu, trumpet).  This is a first. But, we are confident that this is just the beginning of Umut Pelit’s musical adventures.

Does life seem harder lately? Are you feeling overwhelmed? Are you tired? Do you have bills? Have you been hung out to dry? Are you missing someone terribly? Are you down? Then, you need to get the new Zephyr album and listen to it.
Before you know it, there will be a spring in your step and you will be thinking that life isn’t as hard as you thought. This healing elixir is so enchanting you will hardly notice when the album begins and when it ends. This album rejuvenates the soul to the point that when you say, “if only a gentle breeze would blow all my troubles away" that is the precise moment when Zephyr breathes on your life. After all, Zephyr means a gentle and balmy westerly wind.

"A smart musician takes advantage of his own experience, but a very intelligent musician leverages the experiences of others as well to create a beautiful project that provides ultimate listening pleasure."

"My brother, Umut Pelit, has given us an enjoyable pop jazz album that is an exquisite blend of his intellect and musical knowledge. It is truly a work of the heart. Congratulations! "
EYLEM PELİT

"When I listened to the recordings they had made before the album went to distribution, I could feel just how directly Umut had transferred what was in his heart into his music. I have known this brother going back almost to my childhood and have always loved the way he connected with life and lived it. I was overjoyed to experience the meticulousness and attention to detail that I already knew so well. Any praise that might be offered to him or the musicians that accompanied him on the album would be inadequate. A number of important and esteemed musicians came together, and what's more, all of them played out of their love for Umut. This work requires no explanation in terms of technique. After all, it is this affection that has already made the album a success."
EMİN İGUS

“The quality of the compositions performed by this distinguished group of musicians and of the improvisations they have made is indisputable. This is a work I would describe as next generation and I hope it reaches and is shared among those who appreciate it.
Congratulations!”
OKAY TEMIZ

"Playing with a variety of master musicians in different settings and listening to them constantly is the environment that shaped me, a rich environment that included many very important people who gave my life direction.  Some of these include artists like Arif Sağ,  Nida Tüfekçi, Erol Pekcan, Süheyl Denizci and Cahit Berkay, who make and produce music with different approaches and have pioneered a number of fields in our country. Over time, this rich cultural heritage that I have been immersed in since childhood naturally birthed a desire to implement my ideas and opinions in a unique fashion. With this in mind, two years ago I began to take different melodies that I had recorded and began to work on making them into something that could be performed. What you hear on Zephyr is the final result produced with my friends. I tried to do what came naturally without subjecting it too excessive scrutiny. We recorded this album with the unique culture of the land I live in, the place that made me who I am and nourishes me, with its musicians, authors, poets, painters, intellectuals and revolutionaries, as well as all of the boundless enthusiasm I carry inside, with its faults and virtues. I want to thank all of my esteemed teachers, friends and my producer Mircan Kaya for their generous support during the recordings."

"Churada, Bora, Diablo, Euros, Mistral , Zephyros, Zephyr....
ZEPHYROS  was the name of the west wind in ancient Greece. It is a gentle, uplifting breeze. Over time, it came to be called ZEPHYR and means a sweet, light wind.
The only thing I did for Umut Pelit’s first album was to suggest a name and edit the English version of the album’s booklet. Everything else was created by Umut Pelit and Turkish jazz musicians. And what master musicians they are! Just look at who is featured on this album:

Umut Pelit, drums and percussion instruments
Eylem Pelit , bass guitar
Çağdaş Oruç, tenor saxophone
Serkan Özyılmaz, electric piano and keyboard
Baran Çak, vocals
Okay Temiz, percussion
Turgut Alp Bekoğlu, trumpet
Volkan Öktem, bass drum
Ercüment Orkut, piano and keyboard
Nail Evrim Doğ, electric guitar
Emir Ersoy, piano
Sezin A. Türkmenoğlu, bass
Aydın Karabulut, hi-hat cymbal
Cenap Oğuz, cowbell

Murat Beşer wrote the following for the album booklet: “…The passionate respect Umut Pelit has for the many musicians he admires and in whose steps he has followed vibrates in the playing of this young drummer as if he were trying to pay a debt of gratitude that will take a lifetime.”

A breath of fresh air for Turkish jazz: ZEPHYR is a gentle westerly breeze. It did me good. I’m sure it’ll do you good too.

ZEPHYR will be released bearing the logo of the music production company UCM. I am delighted and proud to have played a part in bringing this beautiful album to the world of music."
