PRLog - Oct. 25, 2011 - LAUREL, Md. -- LAUREL, MD – Kristyn Admire, formerly Miss Arlington International, was crowned Miss Virginia International 2012 and will represent the state in the Miss International 2012 pageant. Admire holds a Master of Arts degree in Nonproliferation and Terrorism Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and she was recently certified as proficient in Arabic by the Defense Language Proficiency Test. She currently works for the Department of Defense directly supporting troops stationed around the world. “Serving and protecting my country, state, and fellow citizens is my utmost priority,” said Admire.
Admire chose to compete in the pageant after a yearlong visit to Egypt left a lasting impact on her and transformed her life. “I realized just how much of my life I took for granted,” said Admire. “I love our country and everything we stand for, and I want our country to remain strong. Competing in this system and promoting the importance of learning other languages is critical to helping our country remain a highly respected global leader.”
As Miss Virginia International 2012, Admire has partnered with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages to promote their “Discover Languages, Discover the World” campaign. She hopes to raise enough funds to award a study abroad scholarship to a local student in partnership with ACTFL and other local businesses. Kristyn has traveled extensively throughout the world, having visited Egypt, Turkey, Israel, Jordan and Syria as well as across the country having lived in California, Illinois, Texas and currently Virginia. Admire plans to regularly visit and schools throughout the state to emphasize the lifelong cognitive, academic, social, cultural, and economic benefits of learning a foreign language. She hopes that her experiences will inspire others to challenge themselves by learning critical languages and pursuing careers in the public sector.
Admire will begin preparing to compete for the title of Miss International at the international pageant to be held July 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. The Miss Virginia International Pageant is an official preliminary to the Miss International pageant. The International Pageant system is the only system to require each competitor to have a community service platform. Eligible ladies must live, work, or attend school in the state and be between the ages of 19 – 29.
