Five Community groups were invited to design and produce their own Christmas display, with the support of the City and County of Swansea’s Community Buildings Team.
Each float will be based around a Christmas film theme including Oliver (Sketty Primary School), Muppet Christmas Carol (Doodles), Buddy the Elf (Rural Youth) The Grinch (Bonymaen Kids Play) and the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (Montana Community Centre).
Sue Reed, Community Recreation Development Manager, said, “Like last year we have been fully involved with the community groups and have given them lots of support in creating their floats.
“Over the last few weeks we have held numerous workshops in Morriston Activity Centre, which have proved very popular.”
In total seven floats will make up the body of the procession accompanied by marching bands, dance groups and festive street entertainers including Samba Tawe and Santa himself.
“Prior to the parade a variety of street entertainers will be in the city centre and at Waterfront Winterland to entertain all the excited children waiting for Santa to arrive”
The Swansea Christmas Parade and lights switch on takes place on Sunday 20 November at 5.00pm.
The procession will start from outside the Dylan Thomas Centre at 5.00pm and make its way to the Guildhall via Wind Street, Castle Bailey Street, College Street, The Kingsway, St Helen’s Road and St Helen’s Crescent finishing at approximately 6.30pm.
Spectators are encouraged to line the route and cheer on the parade as it makes its way to the Guildhall.
