“While our song selection and themes change every session, our current focus is on classical guitar and contemporary music -- classical because that is suitable for the instrument we’re playing, and contemporary because everyone loves it,” said Peter Pupping, organizer and conductor of the orchestra, and noted local performer and teacher.
Songs include compositions by Led Zeppelin, Bach, Telemann, Beethoven, Sting, and Carulli.
The Encinitas Guitar Orchestra is one of a few community guitar orchestras around the country. Amateur guitarists from beginner through advanced level perfect their playing skills, learn new music, and enjoy the camaraderie of playing in an ensemble.
“The Encinitas Guitar Orchestra is a true jewel in our area,” Pupping said. “For most amateur classical and acoustic guitarists, practicing is a solo pursuit and there aren’t many opportunities to perform. The orchestra gives everyone a chance to improve their skills and show off what they do.”
