Registration for Montclair Library Kids November Programs Now Open

Registration Begins October 17 for November Programs for Kids, Families and Teens at the Montclair Public Library. All the programs are free, but you need to register.

All the Library's programs are free, but you have to register. To register for programs go to the Youth Services Desk at the Main Library on the 3rd floor. To register by phone call 973 744-0500 ext 2236.

Storytimes

Babies in the Library
Babies meet babies! This lap program is designed to acquaint parents and caregivers with the resources available in the library for their children. Rhymes, songs, language activities, and board books will be introduced during each session. Make baby’s first library experience a special one.
Babies   6-13 mos. at 10:15 a.m.
Babies 14-23 mos. at 11:15 a.m.
Registration required.
Tuesdays, November 15, 22, 29 & December 6.

Mother Goose
Mother Goose is designed to promote literacy among our preschool-aged patrons. Picture books, flannel board stories, songs and puppets are used to build upon children’s natural enthusiasm for books and reading.
Ages 3 to 6
Registration required.
Wednesdays, November 16, 23, 30 & December 7 at 2:00 p.m.

Toddler Time
Toddler Time is a special story time for two-year-olds and the adults in their lives. Picture books, flannel board stories, nursery rhymes and finger plays are used to introduce the pleasures of books.
2 year-olds
Registration required.
Thursdays, November 17, December 1 & 8 at 10:15 a.m. & 11:15 a.m.

Read to Doogie: A Therapy Dog Visit
Doogie would love to hear you read to him. Enjoy a brief overview about Therapy Dog International followed by your own private reading session. You can bring your favorite story or write your own.
3rd floor Children’s Department
Ages 6 and up
Tuesday, November 1 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Registration required and limited to 15 readers; each reader will have 5 minutes with Doogie.

Homeschooling Meeting

Canciones: Hispanic Music for Kids
Enjoy traditional Hispanic songs from Puerto Rico, Haiti, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico as performed on acoustic guitar! This popular informal concert includes new songs with background discussion about the songs, choruses and styles.

Saturday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m.

Thank You Veterans!
Celebrate Veterans’ Day by writing letters or drawing pictures for our local heroes. Paper, pens and crayons will be supplied. All you need to bring is your gratitude.  The letters and pictures will be delivered to the East Orange Veterans’ Hospital.
No registration required.

Sciencetellers: Wizards Race Around the World
What do you get when you mix storytelling with live scientific experiments? Sciencetelling! “There’s no time to waste, we have to leave now!”  And with that, the race begins, as two unlikely heroes travel the world searching for the clues that will stop a terrible evil. With each step forward, they are drawn dangerously deeper into a world of magic and surprises!  Learn about the science of illusions as we tell the tale of wizardry with visual experiments and audience participation, helping our two heroes before all is lost!

Three Sisters Stew:
Cooking with Brother Saalik Many years ago the Lenape Native Amercians walked through Montclair as they moved from summer to winter seasons. When they later encountered Europeans, the Lenape shared a delicious stew made of corn, beans & squash. Learn about the Lenape and help make Three Sisters Stew.

Off the Wall: Children’s Author Jillian Green DiGiacomo
Jillian Green DiGiacomo, first time author and Montclair Mom will read and sign
copies of "Off the Wall," a story of a girl named Delilah whose "everyday days"
suddenly turn strange when she changes each time she looks into her bedroom mirror.
Watchung Booksellers will be at the Montclair Public Library with copies for sale.

Vote for Books
Throughout the month of November, children and adults are invited to vote for their favorite children’s book. Fill in your ballot and place it in the election box in the Youth Services Department of the Main Library. Your vote will be rewarded with a treat!  Results will be displayed on Dec. 1st. Remember, every vote counts!

Books for Kids
Books for Kids established in 1991, offers an opportunity for communities to provide NEW books to children who may not have any of their own.  Drop off a new children’s book in the box marked “Books for Kids” at the Montclair Public Library’s Youth Services Department between Thanksgiving and the Holiday season.
