Coast firm develops hit online game

Sunshine Coast company iApps, which makes applications for the iPhone and iPad, has created an online game that has become a hit worldwide.

Pokemaker has already been downloaded 330,000 times and more than 1.3 million cards have been created by users in countries around the world.

It has been listed in the top 300 most popular applications in several categories and in Madagascar Pokemaker rated as the number one downloaded application.


Andrew Longhorn is the chief technical officer of iApps and the brain behind Pokemaker.

Andrew, who established iApps in partnership with managing director Rick Hoy, said the company’s portfolio and staff numbers were growing quickly.

The Pokemaker application takes the concept of Pokemon trading cards to the online world through iPads and iPhones.

Users can create, battle and trade cards with other people around the world.

The application is free to download and generates a profit when hooked users start buying new playing cards.

Pokemaker has been a hit worldwide with versions now in Chinese, Japanese, Italian and German.

Another of the company’s applications that allows users to stream radio was being downloaded about 100 times a day when it was first launched.

But Andrew said the goal for iApps was to work with Sunshine Coast businesses.

While he was tight-lipped on most of what they were working on, Andrew did reveal they were developing an application to help firefighters battle blazes by helping communication between crews.

“Our real target is to get involved with businesses and produce productivity-type apps in conjunction with experts in that area.

“Rather than just working reactively to getting contracts, we want to be proactive and provide new capabilities for people.”
