Follow on Google News | COPD Knowledge Centre Launched on EPG Website for DoctorsA new COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) knowledge centre has been launched by EPG Health Media.
By: EPG Health Media COPD is a progressive disease resulting in decreased lung function, which is a growing cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It has been estimated by The WHO Global Burden of Disease project that COPD was the fourth leading cause of death in 2004 and predicts that by 2030 it will be the third1. It is thought however, that the current prevalence is an underestimate, due to a lack of awareness among primary care physicians. The COPD Knowledge Centre aims to inform and educate health care professionals on all aspects of COPD. It details the disease epidemiology and pathophysiology as well as risk factors, symptoms and disease staging. The diagnosis of COPD is discussed, including specific tests and parameters, and the current treatment regimens are outlined. “We recognise that today’s healthcare professionals are challenged in keeping up-to-date with best practice for this common, chronic, yet life threatening disease” said Chris Cooper EPG Health Media. “By working with partners in healthcare, such as Novartis, we support our doctors in making more informed clinical decisions that result in best possible patient outcomes.” The COPD knowledge centre is the most recent addition to the website (www.epgonline.org) EPG Online is a medical education website dedicated to providing healthcare professionals with free global access to the most recent best practice, diagnosis and management guidance.
