Oct. 24, 2011 - PRLog -- HE’S one of the world’s most famous artists ever and now a photographic exhibition dedicated to his life is about to be unveiled in Swansea.

Acclaimed photographer Lee Miller’s free Visiting Picasso exhibition is being hung at the city’s Dylan Thomas Centre on Tuesday before a series of events later in the week.

Pablo Picasso was extremely prolific throughout his lifetime and is thought to have produced about 50,000 works of art before his death in 1973.

Some of the Spaniard’s most famous works include the Weeping Woman and Guernica - a painting that refers to the German and Italian bombing of the Spanish town of Guernica during the country’s Civil War.

Miller charted her friendship with Picasso from 1937 to his death and the exhibition offers a unique and intimate portrait of life close to the artist.

Her son Anthony Pengrose will give an illustrated lecture at the Dylan Thomas Centre at 7.30pm on Thursday October 27 about his mum and her friendship with Picasso by using the photographic exhibition as a guide.

A family event will then take place at the centre at 11am on Friday October 28 that will feature Anthony giving an account of his life around Picasso. His talk will include a recollection about how we once bit the artist as a small child.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “Our cultural venues like Swansea Museum, the Glynn Vivian and the Dylan Thomas Centre have a fantastic reputation for attracting high quality exhibitions and this photographic display keeps up that proud tradition.

“Pablo Picasso is probably one of the best known artists of all-time and is certainly one of the famous people to have emerged during the 20th Century.

“This exhibition and the talks that have been arranged will allow visitors to get a unique glimpse into his life from people who spent a lot of time with him.”

Tickets for the talks are available online at http://www.ticketsource.co.uk/dylanthomas or by calling 01792 463980.
