Typhoid Fever Exposed in New Online Video

Oct. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Today, the IAQ Video Network and Cochrane & Associates announced the release of another online video to help educate the public about issues that may impact their health.  The latest educational video discusses the threat to human health due to Typhoid fever.

Typhoid fever is a potentially life-threatening illness caused by the bacterium Salmonella typhi. In the United States about 400 cases occur each year, and 75% of these are believed to be acquired while traveling internationally. Typhoid fever is still common in the developing world, where it affects about 21.5 million persons each year and causes numerous deaths.  Although there are not many cases of the disease in the U.S., it is one of many microbial pathogens that pose a potential risk of emergence.

“Salmonella typhi lives only in humans and is not known to infect other animals. Persons with typhoid fever carry the bacteria in their bloodstream and intestinal tract. In addition, a small number of persons, called carriers, recover from typhoid fever but continue to carry the bacteria,” reported Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video.  “We hope this video helps to educate people about these pathogenic bacteria and ways people can protect their health.”
