Professor Whitmer is a First Officer for a regional airline when he is not teaching the Instrument Rating Ground School at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ). He is the first student at Sunrise Aviation's FAA approved pilot school in Jacksonville to receive an FAA license. Sunrise Aviation began flight training in Jacksonville on September 1st.
Florida State College at Jacksonville is now conducting flight training at its Cecil Airport location. Sunrise Aviation, a flight school based in Ormond Beach, Florida, provides the aircraft and instructors for that flight training in Jacksonville. Sunrise Aviation now has 7 aircraft based at Cecil Airport including Cessna 172s, Cessna 152s, Piper Arrow and Seminole, and recently added a 2011 Piper Warrior.
Many of FSCJ's students take advantage of VA benefits, Florida's Bright Futures program, or other State and Federal Goverment aid programs that make the pilot training program at FSCJ one of the most economical options for Florida residents. FSCJ has had aviation programs for over 20 years and has provided pilot training for about 10 years.
