Los Angeles, CA (October 21, 2011)--Robert Zardeneta, Executive Director of Los Angeles Communities Advocating for Unity, Social Justice and Action (LA CAUSA), has been featured in a new book showcasing Latino-led innovation and leadership in the new green economy, only adding to his celebrity status achieved in East Los Angeles where he was born. Under his leadership, LA CAUSA has embarked on an extensive “Green the East Side” campaign, and created a Green College and Career Center which works with the University of California Los Angeles' Center for Community College Partnerships. The partnership was designed to develop mentorship programs to support youth throughout their transfer experience, and has more than doubled the organization’
s capacity to service youth.
“LA CAUSA’s model of educating young people forced out of traditional high schools, while greening homes and neighborhoods is pure genius. Through hands-on construction skills training and the use of eco-friendly materials, this project-based education empowers their students, while helping them complete their high school diplomas. They see themselves become valuable citizens and realize they can contribute to the community. They experience positive ways to associate with people in the neighborhood other than gang affiliation…
Robert’s vision and leadership is instrumental to LA CAUSA’s innovation and success,” said Latinnovating author, Graciela Tiscareño-Sato.
Zardeneta will speak on October 30, 2011 at 3:00pm at the Green Festival at the Green Business Pavilion on role models and innovation coming from the Latino community. Details are here: http://www.greenfestivals.org/la/greenbusinesspavilion
. The book where he is featured, Latinnovating:
Green American Jobs and the Latinos Creating Them, explores the lives of 10 Latin American entrepreneurs and the progressive contributions they have made within their respective industries and communities.
