Follow on Google News | Girl Scout Uses My Wonderful Walls Stencil Kit To Enrich Her CommunityRebecca Ackermann, a Girl Scout looking to give back to her community, partnered with My Wonderful Walls to paint a mural in a local library. My Wonderful Walls donated the stencil kit and paint for her to paint the mural and receive her Gold Award.
By: My Wonderful Walls Team Rebecca’s ambitious library project fulfilled the Girl Scout service requirements for earning the gold award, which she received immediately after completing her community service project. She kept My Wonderful Walls up to date throughout the process on how things were coming along in the library; recently she emailed again to follow up on her experience and to share how much the project meant to her and to her community. Her inspiration for the project came in November of 2010, when she went to see her twin sisters’ school for the first time. Rebecca’s sister has autism, and like many public special needs schools in the country, her school was underfunded and did not have access to many basic school supplies and amenities. What stuck out most to Rebecca was the lack of a library as well as a diminished book supply for the students. With true Girl Scout grit and initiative, Rebecca collected furniture, solicited valuable technology, held book drives and painting sessions, created a mural to help set the new library space apart, and ended her project with an open house to commemorate the library. She also undertook the gallant task of creating a new book cataloguing system to help students navigate the library and its books as easily and efficiently as possible. Rebecca was truly overjoyed to learn My Wonderful Walls wanted to partner with her on her project; the company’s donation helped make the library come alive with colors and images – something that will continue to help stimulate and engage its autistic students for years to come. The most inspiring part of Rebecca’s story is that her project not only touches the lives of the autistic students and their teachers, but also in the lives of those involved in other programs that have access to the library as well. The building where Rebecca’s painting project took place not only hosts an autistic support program, but also an early intervention program, a head start program, an English as a Second Language program, a literacy camp, and a YMCA day care. Access to a new library space gives them all new and expanded opportunities to learn to read whenever possible. My Wonderful Walls is truly blessed to have had the chance to partner with Rebecca and to help make a difference in the lives of local children and enrichment groups. In addition to stencil kits and paint, My Wonderful Walls also creates stickers, canvas art, and decals. As a family owned and operated company, they focus on creating exceptional, high-quality products, and look for ways to give back to their community whenever possible.
