When a sport is found, it alerts drivers by illuminating a light on the side-view mirror and the Parking Assistant then proceeds to steer and park.  Drivers are only responsible for the acceleration and braking.

The 2012 BMW 5 Series is also built with safety in mind.  The Active Blind Spot Detection uses sensors to check for any blind spots.  If a car is quickly approaching or is in a blind spot, the system will shine a signal in the side-view mirror.  A five-camera system is also included in the 2012 5 Series.  Two Side View cameras are located on the bumper and are displayed on the Control Display for more secure driving.  A Rear View camera informs drivers of objects or people behind the vehicle and provides a bird’s eye image of the vehicle when paired with the two Top View cameras on the outside mirrors.
