“Designing Spaces” to Announce Winner of GAF ‘Ugliest Roof Contest’ on Lifetime Television

Oct. 20, 2011 - PRLog -- As a tribute to the Great American Homeowner, Designing Spaces teamed up with GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer to have a contest to find America’s ugliest roof.  The contest, simply titled-- the “Ugliest Roof Contest,” would provide the winner with a free roof, including materials and labor from GAF.  Make sure to tune in Friday, November 21st at 7:30am (ET/PT) as they air on Lifetime Television.  Special guest Alyssa Hall, Communications Manager at GAF, also joins the show.

In the current economy and with all of the terrible storms that have been affecting most areas of the country, there are many people out there in desperate need of a new roof who simply cannot afford to purchase one.  Designing Spaces and GAF thought it would be a great idea and rewarding experience to find some of the ugliest roofs out there and pick a winner to receive a full roofing system.

The criteria for consideration included more than simply having an ugly roof, the contest required homeowners to submit stories about why they needed a new roof as well.

“When reading through the entries, some of the hardships people were experiencing were just heartbreaking. It was a terribly hard decision, but there had to be a balance of both an ugly and dysfunctional roof with a story that was found worthy,” says Hall. “Some roofs were just awful, but there was no real story-- and some stories were terrible, but the roofs were not all that bad.”  

But, after coming across an entry that encompassed everything the contest was seeking, a winner was chosen!  Congratulations to contest winner-- Eileen Tello!

For the Tello’s home, GAF went with their Camelot designer shingle, matching the color of their home.  Hall adds, “The new roof will make a huge difference toward the look of the home and it comes with GAF’s lifetime limited warranty.”
