Catering Equipment: FRIMA’s VarioCooking Center is eligible for interest-free Carbon Trust Loans

For the hospitality industry this is good news as many of the newer machines are designed with energy saving features which make them eligible for these loans.
When Joel Henderson of Daddy Donkey, a Mexican street grill, recently opened his central production kitchen in King’s Cross he decided to install a FRIMA VarioCooking Center because it was something new, different and would be perfect for the overnight cooking required by many Mexican dishes.
An added bonus for Daddy Donkey was that because of the VarioCooking Center’s design it offers significant energy savings making it eligible for an interest-free Carbon Trust Loan. Typically users are finding that savings of up to 40 per cent can be made with the VarioCooking Center when compared to conventional cooking appliances.
“That swung the deal for us,” says Joel. “It was really easy to apply for the loan. The guys from FRIMA went through the application form with me and it was quickly approved. To get the equipment I wanted with an interest-free loan was fantastic.”
FRIMA’s VarioCooking Center is a totally new concept in cooking. It can be used for a huge variety of cooking styles and processes. It combines a bratt pan, a kettle pan, a griddle, a pressure cooker and a deep-fat fryer, making a compact system with a sophisticated and easy to use computerised control and monitoring system.
The key to FRIMA’s frugal energy consumption is its VarioBoost heating technology. VarioBoost cooks three times as fast as conventional cooking methods. It uses a compact, network-like heating structure beneath the base of the pan. This transfers heat directly and evenly to the food cutting down on overall power consumption.
Daddy Donkey has been using a 211+ VarioCooking Center for about a year now and finds it replaces most of the other cooking equipment previously used.
“We use it for searing meat and then cooking overnight,” says Joel. “This way we can take advantage of cheap rate electricity as well. The pressure mode is especially good for cooking black beans, it’s so much quicker than the way we cooked before,” he says.

The Carbon Trust is an independent, not-for-profit company set up by the Government to work with UK business and the public sector to cut emissions through practical advice and support.
