Follow on Google News | JT Harding Studios launches new line of original still life paintings featuring coastal objects.Indoor and outdoor series based on artist's own beach combing excursions.
Harding, a former graphic designer and marketing executive, has developed a line comprised of seven original works of art …and growing. The series features shells and other beach finds along with other cherished keepsakes. “I conceived of the series, in 2009, when I painted a still life of a Ball jar full of sand and shells that I had collected and labeled “Stone Harbor (NJ). I gave the painting to my sister and one of her friends loved it so much, she asked me to paint a similar one inspired by the coastal town of Cape May (NJ),” stated Mr. Harding. “Feeling that I struck chord with other beach lovers and being passionate about the subject matter, I wanted to continue painting similar themes and broaden the appeal,” said the artist. In 2010, Harding moved from Philadelphia to Massachusetts and was inspired by Cape Cod and the New England coastline so he has based many of his newest paintings on these beaches. The line consists of two parallel themes; 1) Indoor still life paintings, and 2) Outdoor still life paintings. The indoor series depicts a shell collector lovingly displaying her beach finds inside her home, and are inspired by the towns of Cape Cod, MA. The outdoor still life paintings, completed in the artists' backyard, often borrow from seasonal themes or are allegorical in nature. For instance, The Old Man & The Seashells painting was inspired by Ernest Hemingway’s Novel, The Old Man and the Sea. Each still life is painted directly from life in order to capture the impression of light, colors, and textures in the objects featured. In addition to coastal imagery, the thread that weaves through each painting is the inclusion of glass objects. Whether it is a Ball jar filled with sand and shells, or an old beer bottle, Harding smartly bridges the foreground and background by allowing the viewer’s eye to move through beautifully rendered transparent or semi-transparent passages. Original paintings in the collection are available from the artists website, http://www.jtharding.com, and at Xanadu Gallery’s online gallery at http://www.xanadugallery.com/ # # # JT Harding is an American-born representational painter who values the aesthetics and philosophical principles of the Humanist Realism Tradition.
