AIT identified and proposed efficiency savings that could be made by putting in separation walls along the server aisles to separate the hot from the cold aisles within the Data Centre and then worked with Nottingham to design and install the hot aisle separation system (HASS). Now completed, measurements over several months have shown savings in energy costs of approximately 5%.
“As an organisation, we are constantly striving to improve our energy efficiency and reduce our carbon emissions”, said Chris Tadman, Data Centres Team Leader at The University of Nottingham. “I estimate the hot aisle separation system made a 5% saving on our Primary Data Centre energy usage. It helps us to meet the expanding computing requirements of the University whilst reducing our energy bill and Carbon Footprint, both of which are very important targets for the University.”
“We find that Data Centre energy usage of a typical business or local government organization can be 40% (or more) of the total energy bill” said Tim Daniels, Marketing Manager at AIT. “Identifying energy savings within an organization is easy with a Data Centre Energy Audit and savings often pay for themselves within a few months.”
AIT provides Data Centre Audit, to EU Data Centre Code of Conduct standards, for organizations throughout the UK enabling them to save energy, reduce their carbon emissions and better utilise their Data Centres.
