Oct. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- International Hot Tub Company, a Colorado Hot Spring Spas dealer, is showing their support for Energy Awareness Month by offering free hot tub test soaks at all 4 stores located in Denver, Boulder, and Littleton.

“Each year, the United States Department of Energy designates October as Energy Awareness Month.  The 2011 Energy Awareness Month theme is Turn Words into Action; Turn Action into Results,(“) said Rich Hiner, president of International Hot Tub.  “Most homeowners don’t realize how they can cut utility bills at home by changing a few habits.  In order to help, here are 5 things consumers can do to conserve energy at home.”

1 - Turn off items when you are finished using them - This seems obvious, but there are many people who leave their lights, televisions and other devices on all day long. This is especially true with computers. The popularity of screensavers makes it obvious that many people are not turning off their computers during the day. But keeping on your monitor and your computer can eventually make a difference in your electrical bills.

2 - Plug all entertainment devices into a power strip - Televisions, Stereos, and DVD players all use power even when they are on "standby". In fact, most of the electricity consumed by electronics is when they are turned off! If you use a power strip, you can turn off the power strip when you are done using those devices for the day. Not only is this helpful for your energy costs but this simplifies your cords; with all things plugged into the same thing, you can tell where they are and where they lead to.

3 - Take showers that don't last long - This is a tip that bears repeating, because while most people are aware that showers use less water and heat energy than baths, many people take long showers and worse, take multiple showers a day. Take a short shower once a day so that you keep your energy consumption low. In fact, take it a step further and head out to the water heater and turn it down so that your water is a little cooler; this makes for less expensive utility costs all around.

4 - Use ENERGY STAR appliances - All of the items that have an ENERGY STAR label have met standards of energy efficiency put in place by the federal Energy Department as well as the Environmental Protection Agency. When buying any kind of appliance for your home, search out ENERGY STAR products first. When making these purchases, make sure that it will save you money and conserve energy before you can even get it home.

5 - Purchase or Upgrade to an energy efficient personal spa - Your hot tub is probably one of the most beloved appliances in your home and provides numerous benefits for your health. But how is the hot tub's health? If you have had your hot tub for more than five years, there is a chance that it isn't as energy efficient as the newer models. Energy efficient hot tubs are created with energy efficiency in mind, from strong jet pumps to superior filtration systems that ensure lower energy consumption.  We sell an exclusive line of Hot Spring Spas - The Energy Smart® Spa.  Hot Spring Spas has certified all models to the California Energy Commission (CEC) so consumers can have peace of mind knowing that their spas are designed to keep operating costs low.

“We think Energy Awareness Month is a great opportunity to help educate the public on how energy efficient a hot tub can be.  That’s why we will provide free hot tub test soaks in all four of our locations throughout the month of September,” said Hiner.  “We want consumers to check out the benefits of a relaxing soak in an energy efficient hot tub for themselves.”

“We do recommend that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute soak call us ahead of time to reserve their spot,” commented Jill Seng, marketing manager.  “That way we can have everything ready for a relaxed, private hot tub experience.”
