“A Distinctive Style” Honors Cancer Survivors

At one time the term “cancer” was a word few dared to even utter, let alone openly talk about.

Oct. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Increased population, risk, and awareness have, unfortunately, made it a household word, but interactive multimedia publication, A Distinctive Style Magazine (http://www.adistinctivestyle.com), has some positive words to add to the conversation. Its fall issue focuses on  personal stories by and about cancer survivors and their families and share a common theme: cancer can also be the beginning of something better.

A Distinctive Style editor-in-chief, Denise Marie, dedicates this very special issue to everyone who has ever been touched by this horrific disease. As is her hope for the magazine’s overall mission, it will highlight the power and goodness of the human spirit.

In the cover story, award-winning actress, director and playwright, Regina Taylor, reveals that the most important endeavor of her life today is to help save lives by breaking the silence on ovarian cancer. Listen as she shares a very personal story about her mother’s courageous life and brilliant battle with cancer— a battle filled with as much living and loving as her life was. Ms. Taylor, who is the National  Spokeswoman for Ovarian Cancer Symptom Awareness, encourages everyone to visit the site. It could save a life.

Be inspired by the heroic cancer stories about people of all ages. You can follow little two-year-old Ketren Waites’ “first person” story about his leukemia journey and learn about the Caring Bridge, which connects family and friends when health matters most. Christopher Barron, who lost his battle at the age of nine, lives on through the foundation his family started that offers underserved children opportunities to learn to dream big.  And “Dancing in the Rain” is 15-year-old Kaitlin Gallagher’s story. She’s a remarkable young woman who believes that “life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass.”

Fran Dresher, best known for her 90s TV role as the “Nanny,” takes action to “Trash Cancer” with her Cancer Schmancer Movement, based on the book of the same name about her surviving uterine cancer. Among many other amazing cancer stories, listen to singer/songwriter, Stowe, who shares her philosophy to “find something you would die for, then live for it” in her book “Flying High.”

The fall issue also features Peter Shankman, founder of HARO: Help a Reporter Out,™ the free online service connecting reporters and sources. HARO offers the ultimate in sharing that is a win-win for both journalists and small enterprises. You can watch the ADS interview with Shankman, who is also an author, entrepreneur, and public speaker. His philosophy is that the best ideas start out as “you helping someone else.”

Listen to Grammy Award-winner Jennifer Warnes, whose love of singing isn’t about the music itself so much as it is about how close we get through music, the heart connection.

Through the magazine’s multimedia format, you can view (in HD) videos on: A Force of Nature; Save Great Teachers; The Sound of Freedom; Waste Land; Wild Horses & Renegades; and Life in a Day, Ridley Scott’s stunning compilation “filmed by you” and produced by National Geographic. Two documentary trailers related to the value of small farms and our right to choose locally grown healthy foods are also featured: Farmageddon and Ingredients.

The fall issue is packed with much more, from furniture that “grows up and out of the floor” to bedrooms designed to renew and regenerate you. Subscribers can view an impressive video A Distinctive Style has just released showcasing the many informative, entertaining articles in the issue.
