This photo of the strawberry roan Quarter Horse standing in the creek graced the cover of America's Horse in 2009. It's one of my favorite photos and just speaks to solitude, reflection and peace.
This silhouette photo of Julie and her husband, Rich, riding together in their arena was snapped just before a big storm blew in. We were blessed with wonderful light before the storm and a beautiful sunset.
"Eye of the Soul"
The close up of the eye.... Taken during a clinic, this horse was learning fast and taking it all in. I love the eyes of a horse. They speak volumes about temperament. This was a good young horse that is learning to trust his human partner.
This photo of "Gracie" and "Lakota," the palomino and buckskin mares running in the pasture, can be found in large format in Julie's house. In the background you can see the mountains that Julie gets to see every day she's home.
I love this shot of a mare resting while also guarding her foal. It makes me think she's praying over her little one-- wishing him all the best in his young life and making sure he's safe while he's with her. Maybe that's reading a lot into it, but this shot makes me feel so peaceful.
This is a photo of Julie heading out on a trail ride with a little glimpse of her little white dog, Lucy, seen in the lower right of the shot--hidden in the tall grass. It was taken on the same day as the Sunset Ride photo. The light was perfect! The shot makes me want to head out on a ride right now....
