Oct. 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Visitors to Swansea have been enjoying a selection of new and exciting public art works across the city over the last week, as Locws International launched their 2011 exhibition of temporary site specific work at some of Swansea’s most famous and recognised locations.

Artists from Sweden, Wales and further across the UK have been taking inspiration from the culture and heritage of Swansea City to transform the popular sites and venues or simply add to the already inspiring landscape.

This Wednesday 19 October at 1pm, Locws Director David Hastie, and one of this year’s artists Mark Folds, will be at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery to talk about the diverse projects for 2011 and to lead an open discussion about public art and the role of artist.

Project Co-ordinator for Locws, Erin Rickard said, “It’s been inspiring to work with these artists who have created such diverse and engaging artworks for the people of Swansea to enjoy. Artists have focused on the historical and future aspects of the city as well as being inspired by famous creatives from the region including poet Dylan Thomas and Polish born painter, Josef Herman.”

Artist Mark Folds new work Dylan’s Pencil, was inspired by the presence of a 30 ft tree stump standing in Cwmdonkin Park.

The city’s famous poet, Dylan Thomas, was said to have penned many of his early work in or about this beautiful location and this new sculptural work represents simple humble beginnings, ideas jotted down on paper as the starting point for creativity.

Other works in this year’s offering include S Mark Gubb’s Ambition Is Critical, displayed at the city Bus Station, which includes the rough translated text upon a series of flags from the current twinned towns of Swansea.

Art Across the City runs until 30 October and all artworks are free and open to all. For more details visit the information point at Swansea’s Civic Centre, where an exhibition of Locws’ education work with schools can be seen.

All events at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery are free. Please contact 01792 516900 for more information.
