The Indiana Health Care Association is celebrating a successful inaugural Fall Education Conference. More than a hundred long term care professionals and vendors representing nursing home and assisted living facilities from Indiana and surrounding states attended the two-day event at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City on October 11 and 12.
The conference focused on the most current and relevant regulatory and clinical topics that impact the long term care profession, including MDS 3.0 and RUGS IV as well as the Quality Indicator Survey (QIS), a long term care inspection process implemented by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Indiana State Department of Health to determine if Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing homes meet the federal requirements. All of the long term care facilities in Indiana are preparing to undergo this new survey process in the coming years. Other topics covered at the conference included clinical areas such as dementia care and short cycle dispensing as well as other life safety and facility maintenance subjects. Long time Hoosier Bill Hartung, IHCA’s Senior Director of Reimbursement and also the Director of Research at the American Health Care Association, guided conference participants through the most recent CMS changes in Medicare reimbursement.
“As our IHCA members face more and more challenges in state and federal reimbursement, educational and collaborative events like this one will be critical to helping them manage through these difficult times while maintaining the high quality of care they deliver to residents, “ said Scott Tittle, President of IHCA. “We want to thank all of our conference participants and sponsors for helping make the conference such a success.”
Title sponsors for the conference were Medline, PrevMed and Genesis Rehab Services. Additional sponsors included Health Cap, Lee Agency, Grandview Pharmacy, All Med, Flex Pac, In Touch Pharmaceuticals, Proactive Medical Review, National Retrofitting Group, LLC and Calderon Textiles.
The Fall Education Conference is part of IHCA's initiative to renew its education offerings and collaborative opportunities for its members and sponsors. The fall conference will become an annual event that will be held at rotating locations across Indiana. IHCA also hosts an annual Spring Convention & Expo (April 24-26, 2012, Indianapolis)
