Oct. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Ezega.com, Ethiopia’s leading internet portal, reported many interesting news and business data this week. The leading stories of the week were in relation to the IMF report, which states that Ethiopia’s monetary policy is stunting growth and threatening macroeconomic stability. Terming the five-year economic development plan “highly ambitious,” the IMF report says that Ethiopia’s annual growth would be between 6 and 8 percent. The report also mentions that Ethiopia’s plan seems “unrealistic” and that it would not find it easy to meet its target to reduce inflation to below 10 percent.

Also in the news was the book written by prominent opposition leader Dr. Ykob, “Asseb Yeman Nat? Ye Ethiopia Yebahir Ber Tiyake” (“For Whom Does Assab Belong? Ethiopia’s claim for a sea outlet”), which seeks to justify that Ethiopia is the legitimate owner of Assab port. In the book, Dr. Yakob says that Eritrea’s secession from Ethiopia cannot be justified, since the former has always been a part of the latter. He also mentions that a historical relation exists between both countries.

Another important piece of news in the week was the announcement of former President of Cape Verde Pedro Verona Pires’ name for Mo Ibrahim Prize worth $5million. Mr. Pedro Verona Pires has been selected for the prize for good African governance and restoring democracy, prosperity, and stability to the Atlantic archipelago.
