Snow shovel advice and the different types available.

PRLog (Press Release) - Oct. 15, 2011 - We may think that purchasing snow shovels is an easy business and one is much the same as the other and years and years ago, this belief would have been exactly true because the concept of snow shovelling is certainly not a new one. Many years ago snow shovels would have been made from some old animal bone in order to clear snow away but we are talking years ago. More recently there have been so many advancements in the snow shovel technology range and there are now many varieties in which to choose from.

The most important aspect is to consider the way and the type of snow shovelling you are going to be doing because there will be a difference.  The fold away snow shovel for example would not be strong enough to shovel large and wide areas of snow coverage and they are manufactured solely for the purpose of immediate travel precaution. They are ideal for carrying in the car and using when in an emergency. There are many to choose from but the design is very standard and they don’t differ too much from one to the other.

The other snow shovel varieties differ quite a lot and there are the real heavy duty electric snow blowers which will obviously be of a higher cost but they are great pieces of machinery. They are designed to be easier on the back and muscles and there will be less exertion required in order to use them.  They are manufactured to blow snow away from the affected areas and they are very effective, they are also great for longevity and can be used time and time again and then stored away for the next winter.

The other manual varieties are generally the plastic variety and the metal varieties and different designs will perform different tasks. Some snow shovels will push the snow and have a deep scoop that enables home owners to push snow and then deposit it on the side away from the drive or path areas.

Other types will have a shallower scoop and will cut into the ice really well, these tend to be the metal varieties which have a strong metal base in order to cut though compacted ice and snow which can be quite hard to remove once it has established.

The height of the snow shovel also matters to avoid excessive bending which can damage back muscles and sometimes cause stresses and strains. Always use caution when using snow shovels and avoid log levels of exercise for long periods of time. Always endeavour to remove snow and ice regularly from affected areas, this ensures snow can be moved easily before it compacts into snow and ice.
