Marian Renta (born August 8, 1986) is a transgender American singer-songwriter, record producer, and sound engineer. She is the founder and CEO for Hail Stunna Records, a Staten Island-based record label founded in y 2010. Hip Hop and R&B became the staple sound of the label, and soon thereafter, Renta began work in the studio for her debut album.
Marian Renta was born to a difficult life in the Prospect Lefferts Gardens section of Flatbush in Brooklyn, New York. Her maternal grandfather, Jaíme Renta, and paternal grandfather Hector Rodriguez were both singer-songwriters and musicians who collaborated with Latin music icons Héctor Lavoe and Willie Colón.
Renta’s mother fell into substance abuse, and was diagnosed with HIV in 1990 after entering into substance abuse recovery. Renta’
Renta grew up creatively in Newport News, Virginia, Where she attended Woodside High School. She began producing music and was accepted into the magnet program for music at her high school, becoming involved in music functions such as marching band and the school jazz ensemble. At this time Renta could play the piano at an advanced level, and could compose and translate music in manuscript form by ear. Renta knew music was her future when she was recognized at the fourth annual W.E.B. DuBois Invitational Honors Conference at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, in 2000. Moving back to New York in 2003 to live with her mother after physical altercations with her father. Renta graduated from Curtis High School in Staten Island, New York in 2004 and dedicated her high school diploma to her mother as gratitude for inspiration and guidance. Renta often credits her mother for her personal and professional growth and development. Renta was frequently absent in her senior year because of her work as a demo singer for local recording studios Renta completed the work for her debut album, One of a Kind, in May 2011and began promoting the album with Leave You as the initial single. The release of the album was originally slated for June 1, 2011, but was subsequently rescheduled for November15, 2011 due to high record sales of her independent single. Leave You was digitally released on May 22, 2011, selling 2,841 copies in its first week. Outselling many top name established artists and creating a buzz among New York’s music elite.
Renta has a smooth sultry contralto. Her thick melodies flow within the mezzo-soprano range. Love is the subject of the majority of Renta's lyrics, although she has written on the basis of racism, social alienation, death, and spirituality. She has said that much of her work is partly autobiographical. Renta counts her inspirations as Mariah Carey and Phil Collins and finds utilizing her own piano instrumentation most gratifying when composing her material. Her New Album
