Harrods and Pound Shops

In the UK this week two retail Giants Harrods and Poundland both announced record sales. What does this mean for the bargain hunting Outdoor Enthusiast?

Oct. 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Earlier today the Financial Times the UK Daily Financial Newspaper ran two interesting stories both of which indicate something about the world economy today. Both Harrods, the home of luxury, high price goods where even a rubber duck costs £4.95 and Poundland, a discount retailer where every item in store is a £1 or less have reported record sales levels. Harrods has broken through the £1Bn sales barrier, whilst Poundland has reported record sales and profits and so is looking to open stores in mainland Europe.
However, this upturn in fortune is not universal to all retailers. In these recession hit days many retailers are fearing sales decline and falling profits. So what does this mean for the average outdoor enthusiast, particularly with only 10 weeks to go to Christmas? Bruno Blackstone, Marketing Director at http://myoutdoorstore.co.uk told us “This is a great time for anyone looking for a bargain, we hear on a daily basis from retailers who are running promotions to boost sales in the run up to the festive season”
The well known retail names such as Blacks, M&S, John Lewis, Millets and BHS as well as specialist shops such as Chain Reaction Cycles and Trendy Golf are all offering shoppers discounts if purchases are made through the myoutdoorstore.co.uk price comparison site. In addition if you are looking for that special experience present such as flying a plane, driving a Ferrari or being a zoo keeper for a day specialist providers such a Red Letter Days are also offering great deals at the moment.
Zoe, My Outdoor Store CEO explained “Many of us enjoy the outdoors and whether we call it walking, hiking, rambling or trekking probably the most popular way to enjoy the countryside is on foot. One of the great things about walking is that it need not be expensive and via our price comparison site outdoor enthusiasts can compare prices on all sorts of  walking and hiking outdoor gear”. In these recession hit times perhaps the best news for us all is that walking can help keep us fit, enable us to enjoy the countryside as well as spend our hard earned cash wisely on gear that will ensure we are able to enjoy our hobby for many years to come.
So perhaps it’s bumper time for Harrods and Poundland, however, with a little well targeted shopping it could be a bumper time for the outdoor enthusiast also.
