Oct. 13, 2011 - PRLog -- The Velour clothing brand story is an inspiring one. It started in 1997 when Per Andersson was going through the merchandise at his grandmother’s shop, a ready-to-wear clothing store which had closed nearly a decade before after 50 years of business. Something in the abandoned clothing inspired him because he opened up a shop with a few friends called Nostalgi. They sold the old clothes from his grandmother’s store along with re- makes in addition to art and design inspirations. Nostalgi quickly became a forum for the Göteborg, Sweden’s independent scene.

In 2002 the Velour team, inspired by Nostalgi’s creative customers, decided to start designing their own clothes. They launched the first Velour collection in 2005. Since then the company has grown from a few friends to over a dozen designers including Per Andersson himself. The line is carried in over 100 retail stores, most of which are located in the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. It is also represented in Germany, France, Belgium, Holland, Spain and the UK .
" Velour borrows much of its design philosophy from Göteborg’s rich history. The creative culture there is all about “diy ethic”. Musicians, artists and designers from this city have gained international success and the fashion labels are becoming cult favorites in the global market.
"

Velour clothing design concepts favor a classic, preppy look in which traditional garments are revamped with new, stylish details. It attempts to target curious individuals who are interested in trends but prefer to put their own spin on following them. These clothes are open to interpretation and the company encourages you to wear them in your own unique way.
" The color palette is typically muted browns and blues with unexpected pops of colorful accents. Each color is carefully combined with original prints and patterns so that every shade, textile and image has its place. This line is the epitome of thoughtful, creative design.
" The Velour Lionel Parka is a perfect example. The waxed cotton is light and easy to wear over other layers without sacrificing warmth. Details include flap front pockets, a drawstring waist, quilted lining and a convenient inside pocket. The Velour jacket is a recreation of garments originally worn by Arctic Eskimos that were made of caribou or seal. These functional jacket protected them from both wind and moisture while hunting. Instead of wax, fish oil was used to achieve water resistance.
"

The Jesper Velour shirt is also a super-wearable, unique piece. Made from 100% environmentally friendly cotton, it sports a plaid pattern with navy-blocked shoulder paneling and chest pocket. It is warm and soft so you’ll want to wear it every day, just throw it on with jeans and go.
" A casual option is the Antony t-shirt. This half striped melange tee is soft and versatile. The design looks vintage without seeming old and is truly a staple piece for any closet. It represents everything a classic, comfortable t shirt should be.
