Votes were canvassed by the Danish Travel Research firm “You Gov’s” and from subscribers to the Scandinavian travel trade journal Stand By (http://standby.dk). This industry and consumer pool collectively voted Momondo the best online travel site.
This is the first time the category of “Best Travel Website” has been included in the 16 years that these awards have been singling out superlative companies in 20 categories of the travel and tourism industry.
Momondo received this honor with pride, and Martin Lumbye, Partner in Momondo commented:
"The Danish public has spoken, and the Momondo team is honored to be recognized in this way. The team has worked tirelessly for 5 years to create a site with the broadest price comparisons on fares, hotel and rental cars in the world. We have placed tremendous emphasis on making it easy, fast and inspiring to use Momondo when planning your next trip. We are proud that consumers have chosen us as the best travel site. It's truly a great day for Momondo.”
Travel Search Engine http://www.momondo.com is a Danish initiative, launched in September 2006 by skilled computer programmers and people with a passion for new technology and travel. The search engine finds and compares the best prices on airline tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars from over 700 travel websites and then links to these service providers for purchasing. Momondo also includes user-generated online city guides and publishes a series of print travel guidebooks. Momondo has been lauded by both the Danish and international media. In August 2010, the London Sunday Times awarded Momondo as the best overall travel site. CNN has raved that Momondo is the “best for searching far, wide, fast,” and legendary travel authority Arthur Frommer has consistently recommended Momondo as his favorite travel website. In Denmark, Momondo won the 2010 E-Commerce Prize in the category Travel & Tourism, and has several times been nominated for national and international awards in technology and the travel industry.
