Cancer Navigators helps people with cancer in north Georgia navigate their way through the trauma of this devastating disease. They provide information, resources and reassurance to cancer patients and their families.
The mission of the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who will make our world a better place. They serve approximately 41,500 girls and 18,000 adults in 34 counties in the greater Atlanta area.
The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia works to feed the ill, needy, seniors and children in 14 counties in northeastern Georgia. They distribute almost 15 million pounds of food every year to soup kitchens, food pantries, senior centers, churches, etc. They even have a mobile food bank truck that delivers food directly to those who are in need of emergency food assistance.
Students in Metro Atlanta’s low income neighborhoods have some of the lowest graduation rates and SAT scores in the country. Teach for America is working to ensure that children growing up in these areas get a good education. They do this by recruiting leaders in these areas to help expand educational opportunities and to teach there. Their hope is to triple their size by 2012.
The mission of Triple “L” Horse Rescue is to save horses from starvation, neglect, abuse, abandonment, and slaughter. TLHR provides these horses with care, love and rehabilitation. They also work to find the horses permanent homes and to educate horsemen to properly care for, train, ride and respect these beautiful animals.
Since 1988, Kids Chance of Georgia has been providing scholarships to the children of Georgia workers who have been seriously, catastrophically, or fatally injured in work related accidents. They give almost $150,000 a year in scholarships so that the children of these injured workers car pursue their educational goals.
Canine Assistants trains and provides service dogs to enhance and improve the lives of children and adults who have physical disabilities, seizure conditions or other special needs. Each year they give 100 service dogs to those who need them.
