Preferred Care Addresses The Patient Review Instrument

Preferred Care Consulting, Inc. was started in 1999 as a company that focused on patients continued care.

Oct. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Whitestone, New York – United States – October 11, 2011 - In August of this year the New York Department of Health issued a letter to all hospital CEO’s and nursing home administrators cautioning them of the consequences in failing to obtain proper patient and/or family member signatures on the Patient Review Instrument.  Failure to comply with these measures would result in citations and fines.  Preferred Care Consulting, Inc wants to ensure its customers all mandates put forward by the New York Department of Health are being observed.

We spoke with an administrator familiar with the situation and we learned from her that there is a five step process used by Preferred Care to avoid confusion on any forms.  ‘First, we arrange for a PRI to be completed in the home.  Then after the PRI is reviewed by our staff we will consult with you and the client and create a realistic choice of nursing homes based on the client’s medical needs and financial resources.  Thirdly, we will contact and apply to the nursing homes and take you on a tour of as many facilities that are appropriate.  We will then follow up with the homes and secure an appropriate bed for the client.  And finally, if necessary, we will arrange transportation to the facility.’

Preferred Care Consulting, Inc. was started in 1999 as a company that focused on patients continued care.  They are a liaison between the patients and their families and the numerous health care facilities and providers in their area.  They work with nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, assisted living and adult day care programs.  Their main goal is to place the right person with the best care giver for their needs.

In the continued conversation with the administrator she told us that Preferred Care Consultants can help the client and their families understand the differences in the care that is provided.  ‘Respite care is provided on a temporary basis to allow a primary care provider or family member relief for a few hours or days.  Sub-acute care is intensive nursing care for patients recovering from surgery or illness patients receive this care in a nursing home setting.’  She explained these are only two of several options offered depending on the client’s health and needs.

Continuing care for the elderly family member is a tense and confusing time for everyone.  Preferred Care Consulting, Inc. can provide the answers to make the best decision possible.  Please see their website for more information.  www.preferredcc.com
