Having established a base on the Islands in 2005 with the opening of their investment HQ at 18 Le Bordage, Guernsey, The Stanley Gibbons Group have rapidly expanded their footprint with the opening of offices in Jersey in 2009, before relocating to larger premises at the prime location of 18 Hill Street this month.
The offices (originally occupied by Falle Fine Art), have been refurbished by a number of local firms including Elliot Design Partnership, Lotheringtons and Brady & Gallagher Limited.
At the reception, Stanley Gibbons showcased a number of rare, trophy assets including manuscripts from Henry VIII, signed artists prints by Chagall and of course, rare stamps. The highlight though was a Victoria Cross from the Crimean War, valued at £495,000, along with a cannonball from the campaign; although unsold, the medal attracted a great deal of attention.
Guest Mr Benest also won a Penny Black, the world’s first and most iconic postage stamp.
