The conference started with the Divine Hymns (Shabads) by students using stringed music. Dr Davinder Singh, Registrar, Eternal University and also the Secretary of The Kalgidhar Trust welcomed the august gathering, visiting faculties, delegates and emphasized upon the importance of Nursing profession in today’s strife torn world. He also reiterated upon the need to inculcate spiritual values along with highest standard of professional training to the budding nursing professionals.
The keynote address was delivered by International delegate Mr William G Rosky, Chair, Computer Information Systems, University of Michigan, USA. He emphasized on the need of integrating Nursing with Computer Technology and Information Systems to enhance the quality of Nursing Care that would result in improving communication, efficient documentation and make the profession paperless so that all the data can be integrated for providing unique health services of patients with a click of button.
Dr MS Atwal, Vice Chancellor, Eternal University addressed the conference and read out the personal messages from the international fraternity on the successful holding of International Conference.
His Holiness Baba Iqbal Singh, Chancellor Eternal University and the President of The Kalgidhar Trust in his blessed address to the audience welcomed them for joining to this remote Himalayan location of Sirmaur district cutting across global line and country divides. He emphasized “the Nursing profession is a noblest of all profession. A nurse has got a great role to play in the healing of a patient. It is not about just giving physical treatment but also requires being more humble, compassionate with a strong moral values so that a spiritual healing touch could be given to ailing patients.” He further emphasized that education has become an industry but the thrust of Kalgidhar Trust is to impart value based education along with best professional knowledge and acumen and that is exactly the reason that Akal College of Nursing has got the collaborative arrangements with foreign Universities for exchange of know-how from the very day of its inception.
The conference shall be continuing for two days. Many International delegates Dr Marylou McHugh, Professor, Emiretia, Drexel University, USA; Dr Sandra Freidman, Clinical Professor, Drexel University, USA, Joan Teague Bicks & Mararet Louise, Colleges of Nursing ,Wayne State University, USA along with Principal and Deans of PGIMER,DMC,CMC Ludhiana participate in the first day of conference. Mrs Charanjit Kaur Brara, Cardiology and Nurse practitioner in USA spoke on concepts of Nursing Informatics and Dr Marylou McHugh, Professor Drexel University, USA spoke on Standardised Simulation Experience to prepare Nurse Educators - A developmental Exercise.
A number of Post Graduate students of Nursing from colleges of nursing from north and South India are participating in this mega event.
