Oct. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Boca Raton, FL – The Junior League of Boca Raton (JLBR) and Whole Foods Market of Boca Raton are joining forces this Saturday, October 8th, for their annual educational initiative, Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen, empowering kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and reverse childhood obesity.

Children from Boca Raton’s Florence Fuller Child Development Center will be receiving a guided tour and cooking demonstration this Saturday at East Boca Whole Foods Market location. Several guides and chefs will also be on hand to teach the group about the importance of eating locally grown and organic foods.

“We’re thrilled to team up with Whole Foods Market again this year, it’s a wonderful partnership and the children always enjoy their experience at the store,” said Junior League of Boca Raton President, Nancy Dockerty.  “We’re very proud of how successful the Junior League’s Kids in the Kitchen initiative has been over the past 5 years.”

Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen program was launched in 2006 with the support of Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc. The goal is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.  The program now has more than 200 leagues in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States providing lessons and demonstrations related to the preparation of healthy meals and snacks in partnership with local community organizations, chefs and nutritionists.

This Saturday’s Kids in the Kitchen event kicks off at 9:00 a.m. and goes to 11:30 a.m. at the Whole Foods location at 1400 Glades Rd in East Boca Raton.
